Installment of MRP members delayed

INDONESIA: The inauguration of members into the Papuan People's Council (MRP) in the provincial capital of Jayapura has been delayed for technical reasons, a senior Papuan councillor said on Saturday.

The 42 elected MRP members should have been installed on Saturday, but the inauguration ceremony has been postponed until Monday because Minister of Home Affairs M. Ma'ruf had not signed a letter approving the installment.

The minister had not signed the letter because he had not received the curriculum vitae of the 42 MRP members, said Abdul Hakim, chief of the MRP Special Committee that set up the provincial council. -- JP
