Instagram Influencer and Theft Victim Named a Suspect by Indonesian Police's Criminal Investigation Directorate (Bareskrim)
An Indonesian social media influencer and restaurant owner, Nabilah O’Brien, says she has been named a suspect after discussing the theft she experienced on social media. She disclosed the matter via her Instagram account @nabobrien. In the post she said she had remained silent for five months out of fear. “I am a victim of theft who has been made a suspect by Bareskrim Polri. I remained silent for five months because I was afraid to speak out and talk,” Nabilah wrote, as quoted on Friday, 6 March. Nabilah says she has since found the courage to speak out to seek justice. She said that for five months she was asked to admit that what she disclosed and the CCTV footage she released were defamation, and she was asked for Rp1 billion. “I have tried all means to defend myself; I am truly afraid,” she said. Based on this, Nabilah asked Komisi III DPR RI and Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo to provide legal certainty. “Sir/Madam Komisi III DPR RI and the Police Chief, I beg you to provide legal certainty. I am a theft victim; I hope to continue my life and I believe justice can be upheld. This is all I can do; I don’t know where to seek protection,” she said. As background, the case began when a husband-and-wife duo initials ZK and ER vented anger because the food they ordered from Nabilah’s restaurant did not arrive. Not only did they abuse kitchen staff, but they also took food home without paying. Nabilah subsequently reported ZK and ER to the police. After investigation, ZK and ER were named as suspects. When contacted, the Head of Public Relations for Polda Metro Jaya, Kombes Budi Hermanto, said there were two matters at Nabilah’s restaurant. The first is alleged theft under Article 363 of the KUHP handled by Polsek Mampang Prapatan, in which NAA (Nabilah) as the victim reported ZK and ESR. The two alleged offenders have been named as suspects and were scheduled for questioning on Monday, 9 March 2026, but their legal representatives have sent a request to postpone the questioning,” Budi said. “The second matter relates to the posting of CCTV footage to social media, handled by Dittipidsiber Bareskrim Polri, in which Nabilah is in the position of the alleged offender. “So you must understand, these are two different cases with different objects. In other words, there are legal consequences for both sides,” he added. “Polri remains professional, proportionate and transparent in handling the case,” he added.
