Meta has officially introduced paid ‘Plus’ versions of Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp, distinguishable from their free counterparts. Previously, these platforms only offered free versions. Users must now pay a monthly subscription fee to access these ‘Plus’ services. The move is aimed at providing additional features to enhance productivity and user customisation. Instagram Plus and Facebook Plus allow users to view how many people replayed their Stories, create unlimited audience lists beyond Close Friends, and display specific Stories weekly to reach a wider audience. Other features include extending Story visibility beyond 24 hours, uploading posts directly to the profile while creating highlights without appearing in followers’ feeds, Super Heart reactions, custom app icons, additional bio fonts, and extra profile pins. WhatsAppPlus offers custom themes, special routines, more pinned chats, and premium stickers. Meta’s head of product Naomi Gleit stated that more features will be added to the paid service in the future. The subscription pricing varies: Instagram Plus and Facebook Plus are priced at US$3.99 per month (approximately Rp 71,073), while WhatsAppPlus is $2.99 per month (around Rp 53,260). Meta emphasised that ‘Plus’ packages are designed for active users seeking extra features. The move diversifies revenue streams beyond advertising and leverages Meta’s global user base of billions. The company clarified that ‘Plus’ does not replace Meta Verified, which continues to focus on account verification, identity impersonation protection, and additional customer support.
