Instagram Boss Addresses Engagement Drop When Editing Videos with CapCut

Many posts on Instagram are known to use editing tools outside the app, even though the platform has its own editing tools.

So will this cause problems for content uploaded to Instagram, such as a drop in engagement?

Head of Instagram, Adam Mosseri, addressed this in one of his content posts. He answered the question of whether users would be penalised for using apps like CapCut AI, Templify, or caption apps.

He confirmed that it is not a problem. Users are free to use any app for their videos.

“We want users to feel comfortable using any app to create videos, because we want a smooth, enjoyable, and outstanding creative process,” Mosseri explained in a video posted on his official Instagram account.

However, Instagram makes an exception for videos with watermarks from other apps. The platform does not want to become a space full of promotions for other apps.

There is no outright ban on videos with watermarks from other apps. But when uploaded, Instagram will cause their engagement to decline.

“We don’t want Instagram to become a space full of promotions, a place to promote various other video editing apps. So if a video has a watermark from another app, its ranking will be lowered,” Mosseri explained.

“If not, there’s nothing to worry about, just upload it,” he stressed.
