Residents affected by flooding in Aceh Tamiang are beginning to recover through a community-based empowerment programme. The Inspirational Village programme serves as a recovery effort that focuses not only on emergency aid but also on economic and social sustainability.

The flood that previously inundated several areas temporarily paralysed residents’ activities, damaged homes, and halted the local economy. In Seumadam Village, Kejuruan Muda Subdistrict, new hope is emerging alongside the community-based recovery programme funded by zakat.

The National Zakat Amil Institution Baitul Maal Hidayatullah (BMH) inaugurated the Inspirational Village Programme on Monday (16/3/2026). This programme assists survivors in rising comprehensively through an empowerment approach.

BMH’s Chief Executive Supendi stated that the post-disaster phase poses the greatest challenge for communities. According to him, recovery must address not only physical aspects but also the social and economic lives of residents.

“BMH strives with all its capabilities to provide the best services for mustahik, especially those affected by disasters. Aceh is one of the birthplaces of the Inspirational Village programme because zakat is an important instrument for helping communities recover post-disaster,” said Supendi on Tuesday (17/3/2026).

The Inspirational Village programme integrates housing construction aid with community mentoring. Residents are encouraged to reactivate economic activities while strengthening social cohesion in their environment.

Previously, BMH also implemented the Recycle House programme, which builds homes for affected residents using efficient and environmentally friendly materials. This programme helps families who lost their homes to regain decent housing.

Hidayatullah’s General Chairman of the DPP, KH Naspi Arsyad, stated that BMH’s widespread network enables humanitarian programmes to reach disaster-affected areas.

“BMH is present in 38 provinces in Indonesia, allowing zakat distribution to be carried out evenly. BMH’s presence also helps accelerate infrastructure development in disaster areas, from homes and schools to other public facilities,” said Naspi.

The Regent of Aceh Tamiang, Armia Fahmi, welcomed the initiative and appreciated the contributions of BMH and volunteers. The programme is seen as aiding the acceleration of community recovery post-flood.

“We thank BMH and all volunteers who have come to help the people of Aceh. We hope that flood-affected communities can return to activities as before the disaster,” said Armia.

For the residents of Seumadam Village, the Inspirational Village has become a symbol of revival. Lives that were once halted are slowly being reorganised through a spirit of mutual cooperation and new hope.
