Inspection on Boeing 737s
WASHINGTON (AFP): The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is about to order the inspection of 185 Boeing 737s in the wake of last month's 737 crash in Indonesia, ABC television said Wednesday.
ABC said investigators probing that accident believe that attachments were missing on the horizontal stabilizers located at the rear of the aircraft.
The FAA, which oversees U.S. civil aviation, reportedly fears that a lack of attachments might cause a catastrophic loss of control.
The agency will order the inspection of all 737s built in the last two years, ABC said.
As soon as the airlines are notified by the FAA, they must conduct the inspection within 24 hours or five flights, said ABC, which did not specify when the FAA would give word.
