Cianjur, West Java (ANTARA) – Minister of Population and Family Development (Mendukbangga) and Head of the National Population and Family Planning Board (BKKBN) Wihaji lauded the empowerment of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (UMKM) as he visited the Satuan Pelayanan Pemenuhan Gizi (SPPG) Cipanas Sindangjaya 5, Cianjur, West Java.

“In this SPPG, downstream distribution is underway; all production and supply of raw materials come from local sources, thereby empowering UMKM and the community,” he said on Wednesday.

The SPPG serves Sindangjaya and Cipanas villages, across 12 educational facilities or 2,860 students, and around 290 beneficiaries from the groups of pregnant women, nursing mothers, and toddlers (the 3B group).

“The production from UMKM is a good step towards realising the Free Nutritious Meals Programme (MBG), which not only improves the nutrition of the nation’s children but also boosts the local economy,” said Wihaji.

Meanwhile, Deputy General Chairman for Livestock at the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) Cecep Muhammad Wahyudin stated that SPPG Cipanas Sindangjaya 5 produces ready-to-eat meals or ready-to-cook meals autonomously during Ramadan.

“This is what needs to be clarified to the public. Ready-to-cook food does not mean ultra-processed or UPF, because this is 85 percent vegetables and protein, 25 percent processed,” he said.

Cecep added that the SPPG houses 18 UMKM and Merah Putih Village/Desa/Kelurahan Cooperatives (KDKMP) that are empowered to supply raw materials for the MBG programme.

“The 18 are those we supervise closely to ensure our supply chain is safeguarded. The more suppliers, the more diverse, the better for the equitable distribution of the community’s economy,” he noted.

Additionally, he continued, once a month, heads of posyandu and heads of schools are gathered in a programme gathering for evaluation and refreshment so that the MBG programme can run with higher quality.

“This SPPG also has experienced cooks. Some have cooked for Hajj pilgrims in Saudi Arabia for approximately seven years, so the quality should not be in doubt,” Cecep said.

Head of SPPG Cipanas Sindangjaya 5, Anggi Awaludin, said they also provide incentives to the Family Assistance Team (TPK) distributing MBG to the 3B group.

“We provide incentives every two weeks, Rp1,000 per ompreng in line with Presidential Regulation, which is calculated for deliveries over six days, not just twice. There are two points here that specifically serve MBG for the 3B,” Anggi said.
