The Central Executive Board of the Indonesian National Shipowners’ Association (DPP INSA) has assessed that the single-door export policy through PT Danantara Sumberdaya Indonesia (DSI) will strengthen the governance and competitiveness of national natural resources. “We see this policy as a government breakthrough to strengthen the export governance of Indonesia’s strategic commodities. Its main focus is system improvement and trade transparency,” said DPP INSA Chairperson Carmelita Hartoto in a statement in Jakarta on Sunday. INSA considers the single-door export policy for strategic natural resource commodities to be a positive step, whilst noting that its implementation must still guarantee space for the national private sector to grow. Carmelita said the single-door export policy deserves appreciation as the government’s effort to increase transparency and accountability in strengthening the export governance of Indonesia’s strategic commodities. For this purpose, Danantara has established PT Danantara Sumberdaya Indonesia (DSI) as a State-Owned Enterprise (SOE) for Exports. In the initial stage, the single-door export of strategic natural resources is aimed at coal, crude palm oil (CPO), and ferroalloy commodities. Nevertheless, Carmelita expressed hope that the establishment of the Export SOE is directed at strengthening more transparent and accountable export governance, whilst still carrying out its function as an agent of national development, rather than being solely profit-oriented. With this role, she continued, the SOE is expected to be able to encourage equitable national economic development, strengthen strategic sectors, and build good partnerships with the national private sector.
