INSA strengthens safety systems and risk management for tourist vessels

The national tourist vessel industry is strengthening the implementation of safety standards and more measurable risk management to improve shipping safety while enhancing the competitiveness of Indonesia’s marine tourism.

To achieve this, the Indonesian National Shipowners’ Association (INSA) is collaborating with PT Biro Klasifikasi Indonesia (Persero), or BKI, PT Jasaraharja Putera, and PT Reasuransi Indonesia Utama (Persero), or Indonesia Re.

Deputy Chairman of DPP INSA Nova Y. Mugijanto said in a statement in Jakarta on Sunday that the cooperation is a step towards building a more integrated safety and risk management system for tourist vessels.

“With better safety standards and classification, the operational risks of tourist vessels are expected to be managed more measurably, so that insurance protection can be more optimal and premiums are expected to become more competitive,” he said.

According to him, meeting classification standards and insurance protection is also expected to increase the confidence of financial institutions in tourist vessels as financed assets.

“Ultimately, this can open up better access to financing and encourage the acceleration of the development of the national marine tourism industry,” he said.

Meanwhile, President Director of BKI R. Benny Susanto said the development of marine tourism does not only depend on infrastructure and fleet, but also on safety standards, risk management, and governance that meet national and international requirements.
