The government plans to implement a national B50 biodiesel mandate (50% palm oil-based biofuel and 50% diesel) from 1 July 2026. The policy aims to halt diesel imports, save foreign exchange, and bolster the domestic palm oil industry.

In response to the government’s strategic plan to expand B50 biodiesel implementation across national industries, local filter manufacturer Bpfilters has introduced a new diesel and heavy equipment filter line designed for B50 fuel. This proactive move addresses industry concerns in mining, plantations, and construction over technical challenges posed by higher biodiesel blends.

B50 (50% FAME/B100 blend) presents unique challenges compared to its predecessor B40. While more environmentally friendly, high FAME content is hygroscopic (absorbs moisture), oxidises faster, and can cause sludge formation and microbial growth in fuel tanks.

“Bpfilters has innovated to anticipate potential issues such as clogged filters, blocked injectors, and reduced heavy equipment productivity,” said Bpfilters Indonesia CEO Bonny Pratama in Jakarta on Monday, 25 May 2026.

He explained Bpfilters has implemented three filtration design features for B50: increased filtration area, multi-stage water separation, and advanced micron rating media.

“The implementation of these three technologies has proven to significantly extend filter lifespan, maintain stable engine performance, and directly reduce fuel consumption through cleaner combustion,” he added.

He stressed Bpfilters’ advantages are field-tested. Data from B40 users shows a stark contrast in efficiency compared to conventional filters.

For instance, truck buses previously experienced clogged filters at 5,000 km, but with Bpfilters, lifespan extends to 20,000 km. Heavy equipment that previously clogged after 250 hours now lasts up to 1,000 hours.

“With advanced filtration systems, B50 users need no longer worry about productivity or engine performance issues,” Bonny stated.

Bpfilters is no newcomer to Indonesia’s biodiesel ecosystem. Since 2018, the local company has consistently innovated from B20 through to the current B50 phase.

To date, Bpfilters is a trusted partner for major companies in mining, plantations, transport, and construction sectors reliant on diesel engine reliability.

“With the upcoming June launch of its B50-specific filter line in Bogor, Bpfilters reinforces its position as a pioneer of local filtration solutions ready to support national energy sovereignty while safeguarding operational efficiency for Indonesian businesses,” he concluded. (H-2)

This downstreaming programme is supported by consolidated financing through the National Energy Resources Investment Management Agency (Danantara).

B40 biodiesel implementation reduced diesel imports from 8.3 million kilolitres in 2024 to 5 million in 2025—a decrease of 3.3 million kilolitres.

The government is currently conducting trials and road tests to ensure technical readiness for on-ground implementation, particularly in the transport sector.

Rising global oil prices due to escalating Middle East conflicts could provide a timely opportunity to accelerate B50 biodiesel policy implementation.

Aprobi Secretary-General Ernest Gunawan stated the 2026 B40 mandate allocation is set at 15.646 million kilolitres.
