Innovation and Energy Efficiency Become Imperatives in the Air Conditioning Industry
Public demand for air conditioners (AC) continues to rise alongside the need for comfort in homes and workplaces. However, amid rapid technological development, the function of modern AC units has transformed. These devices no longer merely produce cold air but must also prioritise energy efficiency, ease of use, and practical maintenance aspects.
Professor Dr. Ir. Andriyanto Setyawan, MT, a Professor of Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineering at Politeknik Negeri Bandung, stressed that every room has unique cooling characteristics. Therefore, the type and capacity of an AC cannot be standardised for all needs.
"The function of the room is different, so the requirements are different, the type will also be different. The capacity is different. For offices, hotels, hospitals, restaurants, and shopping centres, all have different specifications," he said in a statement in Jakarta, Tuesday (16/6/2026).
To ensure the device operates optimally with efficient operational costs, consumers can pay attention to five crucial factors.
Echoing the academic view, industry players also see a shift in consumer preferences. Vice President of FLiFE Indonesia, Nicky, stated that the market now demands more than just cold air.
During the FLiFE Media Gathering 2026 in Jakarta, Monday (15/6/2026), Nicky explained that customer needs now encompass technology relevant to a digital lifestyle, operational ease, and reliable service support.
By considering technical aspects and after-sales support, consumers are expected not to be trapped solely by low initial prices, but also to consider the total cost of ownership so that the investment in air conditioning devices provides maximum comfort without burdening finances in the future.
