Inmates join Koran reading contest

PALEMBANG, South Sumatra: A total of 64, including two local prison inmates, are participating in the Koran reading contest held by the state-owned radio and television stations, RRI and TVRI.

Opened on Saturday by the head of the local office of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, HM Azom Romli, the contest was open to all members of the public from age 18 to 35.

Antara reported that 14 of the contestants are female. The event will conclude today. (swe)
