Inmates' Creations from Across Bali Sold at Bazaar, Including Paintings and Crafts
Handmade products from inmates (napi), such as paintings, crafts, processed foods, and the like, were sold at a bazaar at the Class IIB Karangasem Penitentiary (Lapas) on Thursday (26/3/2026). The crafts on sale were the works of inmates from penitentiaries, state detention centres (rutan), and community guidance centres (bapas) across Bali.
“The purpose of this bazaar activity is our effort to be more beneficial to the general public,” said the Head of the Bali Regional Office (Kanwil) of the Directorate General of Corrections (Ditjenpas), Decky Nurmansyah.
In addition to the handmade items, the bazaar also featured agricultural produce from all penitentiaries, detention centres, and guidance centres across Bali. Some of the agricultural products sold included eggplants, kangkung vegetables, and mustard greens. There were also eggs from the livestock farming of one of the penitentiaries.
“Most of the products we are selling at this bazaar are the creations and crops produced by the inmates,” Decky stated.
Decky explained that the bazaar serves as an initial step or momentum for the upcoming corrections service anniversary celebrations in April. Therefore, the Bali Regional Office of the Directorate General of Corrections wishes to provide greater contributions to all communities in Bali.
“Activities like this are not the first we have done; they have been quite frequent, either independently or in collaboration with relevant parties,” Decky added.
The products sold at the bazaar were priced affordably. As a result, several local residents who learned about the bazaar came directly to buy vegetables and other items.
