KAI Commuter has announced a reduction of 17 trips on the Jakarta Kota–Bogor KRL route, caused by maintenance work on train sets produced by INKA. The iE305 series KRL manufactured by INKA has been operating on the Jakarta Kota–Bogor route since December 2025.

As reported by detikcom on Tuesday (8/9/2026), the iE305 series train set, also known as CLI 225, began carrying passengers on the Jakarta Kota–Bogor route on 16 December 2025. The train entered service after undergoing a series of tests, including construction, static, dynamic and endurance testing.

According to KAI Commuter, the train uses the latest Variable Voltage Variable Frequency (VVVF) traction system and is equipped with a Train Monitoring System (TMS). This means, KAI Commuter said, that all operations are centralised to improve safety and operational reliability.

Each carriage has 16 glass windows on the left and right sides, and each carriage is equipped with two air conditioning units. There are eight automatic doors on the left and right sides of each carriage. The CLI-225 operates in a formation of 12 carriages (SF12) equipped with two driver cabs.

Each carriage has an average capacity of 283 passengers. Amenities include digital information boards above the automatic doors, priority seats, CCTV inside carriages, luggage racks, dedicated wheelchair spaces, emergency intercoms, emergency doors, emergency glass-breaking hammers and emergency stairs.

Door Problems and Derailment

On 29 December 2025, the INKA-made KRL went viral after experiencing door malfunctions. KAI Commuter’s VP Corporate Secretary, Karina Amanda, explained at the time that technicians from PT INKA had been assigned to accompany the new train on its journeys.

“At present, PT INKA is continuing to provide technical assistance for the CLI 225, which is a product of PT INKA,” Karina said on Monday (29/12/2025).

INKA technicians accompanied the commuter line journeys so they could respond as quickly as possible whenever problems occurred. KAI Commuter assured the public that the INKA-made KRL had passed operational testing. KRL users had complained several times about door problems on the INKA trains, which were seen as disrupting journeys.

“These issues have been coordinated further with PT INKA. Going forward, technical handling and inspection will be carried out by PT INKA,” she said.

Most recently, an INKA-made KRL derailed at Jakarta Kota Station on Friday (4/9/2026). The incident disrupted services, forcing KAI Commuter to shorten the KRL route from Bogor to only Jayakarta or Manggarai Station.

The train derailed twice in a single day — in the morning at Jakarta Kota Station and at midday at Manggarai Station. KAI Commuter said the train derailed at Manggarai while being taken to Balai Yasa Manggarai, a workshop facility owned by KAI.

“The commuter line rolling stock that derailed at Manggarai Station on Friday afternoon (4/9) was the same set that had previously experienced a derailment incident at Jakarta Kota Station earlier that morning,” said KAI Commuter Public Relations Manager Leza Arlan in a written statement on Saturday (5/9/2026).

KAI Commuter Reduces Trips

KAI Commuter subsequently suspended operations of the iE305 KRL temporarily for maintenance. This led to a reduction in KRL trips on the Jakarta Kota–Bogor line.

The cancellations affected seven trips from Bogor/Cilebut/Depok to Manggarai/Jakarta Kota and five trips from Jakarta Kota to Bogor in the morning, as well as two trips from Manggarai to Bogor and three trips from Bogor in the afternoon.

The cancellations reduced daily KRL trips across Greater Jakarta from 1,065 to 1,048 trips per day. KAI Commuter VP Corporate Secretary Karina Amanda said the maintenance was carried out for the safety of journeys.

“We are currently carrying out intensive maintenance on the available KRL train sets, for the sake of safe and secure journeys. We understand there will certainly be inconvenience for Commuter Line users during this maintenance process. We apologise for the inconvenience caused,” Karina said.

INKA Takes Responsibility

PT INKA’s SM Corporate Communication and Representative Office, Nanang Agung Rohmandiyas, said the company was directly carrying out maintenance on the iE305 series train sets. The maintenance, or general check-up of the train sets, is being carried out to ensure all components are working properly, including the bogie system, propulsion system and all components related to operational safety.

“Since the start of this process, our engineering and quality assurance teams have been on the ground together with the KAI Commuter team to ensure that every component, including the bogies and propulsion system, is functioning optimally. We fully support this process to ensure the reliability and safety of the rolling stock,” said Nanang Agung Rohmandiyas.

He said INKA continues to coordinate with KAI Commuter to ensure the train sets it produces meet safety and comfort standards for users. He said the maintenance is a form of the manufacturer’s responsibility.

“For us, this is a form of responsibility as a manufacturer and of synergy within the railway ecosystem. The aim, of course, is to improve product quality for the comfort and safety of Commuter Line users,” Nanang said.
