Madiun, East Java (ANTARA) — State-owned railway manufacturer PT Industri Kereta Api (Persero), or INKA, has reaffirmed its commitment to evaluating and refining its KRL commuter trains to support safe, comfortable and reliable services for the public, in line with requirements set by the operator and regulator.

INKA Senior Manager for Corporate Communications and Representative Office Nanang Agung Rohmandiyas said in Madiun, East Java, on Tuesday that the commitment was consistent with the Transport Ministry’s direction on meeting technical specifications and operational fitness requirements for railway rolling stock.

Regulatory guidance and the results of joint evaluations with the operator would also inform INKA’s decisions on follow-up action regarding technical findings on the KRL trainsets.

“Consistent with the statement by the Director General of Railways at the Transport Ministry, INKA is committed to delivering high-quality products that meet technical specifications agreed with the operator and the requirements set by the regulator. The Transport Ministry’s direction is a priority for us as we accelerate corrective action and refinements, while continuing to prioritise compliance with safety and operational fitness requirements,” Nanang said.

To fulfil this commitment, INKA is continuing to coordinate with PT Kereta Commuter Indonesia, or KAI Commuter, on follow-up to inspections of the trainsets. Technical notes and the condition of the rolling stock in the field will provide the basis for determining the necessary action, including further inspections, repairs and refinements in line with the results of the joint evaluation.

Nanang stressed that follow-up action must be accompanied by inspections and testing to verify the results. This will ensure that the completion of technical work can be assessed against the applicable requirements.

“Our responsibility as a manufacturer includes following up on product performance after it enters service. We will continue working with the operator to address findings, verify the results of remedial work and ensure that every refinement is carried out in accordance with the technical requirements,” he said.

INKA recognises that public demand for KRL services requires reliable rolling stock. Efforts to accelerate remedial work must therefore go hand in hand with rigorous inspections, testing and compliance with safety rules.

INKA supports the operator and regulator’s efforts to ensure that rolling stock used in services meets operating requirements. In addition to work on the trainsets, findings from field evaluations will inform improvements to production processes and quality control.

Feedback from the operator is needed to ensure that action on the findings also strengthens product quality consistency and reliability in day-to-day use.

“We apologise for the inconvenience experienced by Commuter Line users. We understand that disruption to journeys affects people’s daily activities. We are committed to responsibly following up on the results of inspections conducted with KAI Commuter, prioritising safety, rolling-stock reliability and passenger comfort,” he said.
