InJourney: Roof Damage Repairs at Soekarno-Hatta Airport Completed in Two Days
Tangerang (ANTARA) - PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia (InJourney Airports) Soekarno-Hatta International Airport Branch Office in Tangerang, Banten, targets the repair process for the damaged roof or ceiling in the Lounge Gate 7 Terminal 3 Departure, caused by extreme weather, to be completed within two days of work. “The repair process for the collapsed roof and ceiling in Terminal 3 will take two days. So, that area has now been localised by us for fixing so it can be used again as before,” said Assistant Deputy for Communication and Legal Affairs at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Yudistiawan, in Tangerang on Tuesday. He assured that following the ceiling roof damage incident in the departure terminal, it did not impact the airport’s service quality. Furthermore, he added, during the incident, there were no reports of prospective passengers becoming victims, either injured or fatalities. “Meanwhile, the losses cannot yet be estimated because the repair process is still ongoing,” he stated. Yudis conveyed that all other facilities such as the runway, taxiway, and apron are ensured to be in good condition and can operate normally without any disruptions to aircraft movement activities. “The safety and security of passengers and flights remain the top priority. This is certainly in every operational decision-making,” he explained. To date, he said, the service situation at the international airport is running normally without any significant obstacles or disruptions to the comfort of prospective flight passengers. “After the incident, we carried out localisation of the area, cleaning, and tidying up,” he said. Meanwhile, General Manager of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Heru Karyadi, added that Soetta Airport authorities are now continuously coordinating intensively with AirNav Indonesia, airlines, and all related stakeholders to ensure flight operations remain safe, orderly, and controlled amid less conducive weather conditions. In addition, a number of airport personnel are conducting 24-hour surveillance of all facilities, including building infrastructure, so that if any potential disruption is seen, the surrounding area will be sterilised from aircraft passengers and airport workers to minimise the impact. “As a precautionary measure, airport service users are urged to always monitor flight schedule updates through official airline channels or information screens at the airport, and to arrive earlier to anticipate possible schedule adjustments due to weather conditions,” he said. Previously, extreme weather with high-intensity rain over the past few days caused the roof or ceiling to collapse in Terminal 3 of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (Soetta), Tangerang, Banten, hitting service facilities in the flight terminal. Based on a video captured by a flight passenger on Monday (6/4), it shows the moments of the roof collapse incident that occurred at Gate 7 Departure in Terminal 3 of Soetta Airport. In the 17-second video recording, it begins with a leak from the top of the airport roof. Following that condition, the leak grew larger until finally the ceiling broke, accompanied by a spill of water that hit the passenger waiting room facilities. “The incident at Gate 7, around 1:40 PM WIB. Quite a lot of people, thank God they managed to run,” said one passenger bound for Singapore. According to him, at the time of the incident, there were quite a few passengers in the area, and the passengers were waiting for the boarding process. However, shortly after, water suddenly fell from the ceiling, causing panic among the passengers. “Just now, coincidentally about to board to Singapore while waiting at Gate 7,” he said.
