Initiating Energy Savings, Tens of Thousands of PLN Employees Simultaneously Implement Clean Energy Day
PT PLN (Persero) has officially launched the Clean Energy Day movement as a strategic step by the company in building a new, more efficient, green, and sustainable work culture. This programme is an initiative that encourages PLN employees throughout Indonesia to use environmentally friendly transportation every Friday, as a concrete effort to reduce fossil fuel energy consumption and carbon emissions.
The movement, officially launched on 10 April 2026, embodies the government’s directives to optimise fossil energy savings amid global geopolitical challenges. It also strengthens the corporation’s commitment to leading the energy transition in the country.
PLN’s Director of Legal and Human Capital Management, Yusuf Didi Setiarto, explained that this movement is not merely an appeal, but a transformation of paradigm and collective behaviour involving more than 37,158 PLN employees.
“As a commitment to implementing government directives, we present Clean Energy Day as a step in transforming a new work culture that is more efficient, green, and sustainable. With the spirit of mutual cooperation, we are optimistic that this step will have a real impact in curbing national fuel consumption and massively reducing carbon emissions,” said Didi.
In its implementation, PLN has set a ‘No-Fuel Vehicle Parking’ policy at all PLN offices every Friday. All employees are encouraged to use public transportation modes (KRL, MRT, LRT, or BRT), electric vehicles (EV), cycling, or even walking.
In addition to the transportation sector, Clean Energy Day also targets company operational efficiency. PLN is implementing a 50-70 percent efficiency in official travel and optimising coordination meetings virtually.
To ensure the programme’s success, PLN has integrated Clean Energy Day into the company’s internal application. Through this system, employees can automatically record their daily travel activities.
The data will be monitored in real-time and serve as the basis for management to provide appreciation to employees or work units that are most actively participating.
On the inaugural implementation on Friday (10/4/2026), Clean Energy Day, PLN employees successfully reduced carbon emissions by 28,600 kg of CO₂ or an average of 2.9 kg of CO₂ per employee. This initiative also recorded savings in fuel consumption of around 12,400 litres with energy cost efficiency equivalent to approximately Rp153 million in one day.
“This is a movement from us for the future. A new way that addresses the need for efficiency while maintaining productivity. We want to prove that working in a greener way is a pride and a new standard at PLN,” said Didi.
