Initially, Sergeant Edi Wanted to Punch Andrie Yunus, but Lieutenant Budhi Suggested Pouring Acid on Him
JAKARTA - Sergeant Edi Sudarko, the defendant in the acid-pouring case against Andrie Yunus, deputy coordinator of the Commission for the Disappeared and Victims of Violence (KontraS), was said to have initially only wanted to punch the victim.
The other defendants in the acid-pouring case are Lieutenant Budhi Hariyanto Widhi, Captain Nandala Dwi Prasetia, and Lieutenant Sami Lakka.
“Edi said he wanted to punch Andrie Yunus as a lesson and to create a deterrent effect, but Budhi said ‘don’t punch him, just pour him with rust cleaner liquid’,” stated Military Prosecutor Lieutenant Colonel Chk Muhammad Iswadi at the Military Court II-08 Jakarta on Wednesday (29/4/2026).
Upon hearing this, Budhi and Nandala agreed and decided to carry it out together.
“At that time, Edi searched for information via Google about Andrie Yunus’s activities, finding that Andrie Yunus had a routine event, namely the Kamisan event at Monas,” continued Iswandi.
Then, Nandala Dwi Prasetia divided the tasks. Edi and Budhi were to look for the victim at the KontraS office, while Nandala and Sami headed to YLBHI.
Before carrying out the attack, on 12 March 2026 around 16:30 WIB, the defendants travelled together to the Denma BAIS TNI workshop.
“At that time, Edi waited on the motorbike while Budhi walked to the Denma Bais TNI car workshop. Upon arriving at the workshop, Budhi took a used battery located in the corner in front of the toilet or bathroom,” said Iswadi.
He explained that Budhi then mixed the battery acid with rust cleaner liquid stored in an unlocked cupboard.
“Then Budhi mixed the two liquids into a purple tumbler glass with a black lid that Budhi brought from his room. Next, Budhi wrapped the tumbler in a black plastic bag and hung it on the front of the motorbike,” clarified Iswandi.
Previously, four Indonesian National Army (TNI) personnel were charged with pouring acid on KontraS deputy coordinator Andrie Yunus in Salemba, Central Jakarta, on Thursday (12/3/2026).
The four defendants are Sergeant Two Edi Sudarko, First Lieutenant (Lettu) Budhi Hariyanto Widhi, Captain Nandala Dwi Prasetya, and Lettu Sami Lakka.
The motive was offence over Andrie Yunus’s instructions at the Fairmont Jakarta hotel on 16 March 2025.
“The defendants considered that Mr Andrie Yunus had insulted the TNI institution and even trampled on the TNI institution,” said Military Prosecutor Lieutenant Colonel Corps Hukum (Chk) TNI Muhammad Iswadi during the trial at Military Court II-08 Jakarta on Wednesday.
The four defendants are charged with multiple articles, namely Article 469 paragraph (1) of the Criminal Code as the primary charge, Article 468 paragraph (1) as subsidiary, and Articles 467 paragraphs (1) and (2) as further subsidiary, in conjunction with Article 20 letter c of Law No. 1 of 2023.
