Sleman Regent Harda Kiswaya initially rejected the work-from-home (WFH) policy for civil servants (ASN) in line with the central government’s circular. However, he is now following the policy.

“We will follow the circular from the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform regarding the transformation of civil servants’ work culture to intensify the efficient use of energy,” said Harda in a written statement received by journalists, as reported by detikJogja on Thursday (9/4/2026).

The Sleman Regency Government will study which sectors can implement the government’s policy. This is in accordance with the Home Affairs Minister’s Circular No. 800.1.5/3349/SJ on the Transformation of Civil Servants’ Work Culture in Local Government Environments and the Minister of PAN-RB Circular No. 3 of 2026 on the Implementation of Civil Service Duties for Civil Servants in Government Agencies.

“We, through the Sleman Personnel, Education and Training Agency (BKPP) and the Organisational Section of the Regional Secretariat of Sleman, are currently formulating the technical provisions related to the implementation of WFH, which will be carried out every Friday in Sleman Regency,” he explained.

Harda emphasised that the implementation of the WFH policy will not sacrifice the quality of public services. One of the efforts by the Sleman Regency Government is to maximise the utilisation of information and communication technology.

“We emphasise that this policy, aimed at accelerating the transformation of effective and efficient regional civil servants’ work culture, can be carried out without reducing the quality of public services,” he asserted.

Previously, Harda Kiswaya stated that he would not implement the WFH policy for civil servants every Friday. According to him, implementing WFH would not be optimal in his region.

“I respect that order, regarding WFH, if in the regency area, in Sleman, it cannot be optimal. Therefore, I serve the community as usual,” said Harda at the Regional Secretariat office in Sleman, as reported by detikJogja on Wednesday (1/4/2026).
