Initial Estimates for Ramadan 2027: Full Schedule of Eid Holidays and Collective Leave
With the Islamic year 1448 Hijri just beginning, information regarding the start of Ramadan 2027 is already being sought. This is due to the significance of the ninth month of the Hijri calendar for Muslims.
As is common, the start date of Ramadan advances every year. This occurs because of the difference in the number of days between the Hijri and Gregorian calendars. The Hijri calendar follows the lunar cycle, while the Gregorian calendar is solar-based, resulting in a discrepancy of approximately 11 days per year (354 days in the Hijri calendar versus 365.25 days in the Gregorian calendar).
Estimates for the Start of Ramadan 2027
According to the Single Global Hijri Calendar 1448 H issued by Muhammadiyah, the start of Ramadan is projected to fall on Monday, 8 February 2027. This implies that the first Tarawih prayers would be held on Sunday night, 7 February 20lar 2027.
The KHGT calendar is developed using astronomical calculations, known as the ‘hisab’ method, and aims to unify the Islamic calendar globally.
Regarding the government’s position, the Ministry of Religious Affairs determines the start of Ramadan through a ‘sidang isbat’ (verdict session) held at the end of the month of Shaban. While the official 2027 Hijri calendar from the Ministry has not yet been released, projections can be drawn from the 2027 Crescent Moon Altitude Map provided by the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).
Indonesia determines the start of the month using a combination of ‘hisab’ (calculation) and ‘rukyatul hilal’ (moon sighting) based on the MABIMS criteria. The criteria require a minimum crescent moon altitude of 3 degrees and an elongation of at least 6.4 degrees. Based on BMKG data, the conjunction for Ramadan 1448 H occurs on 6 February 2027. However, at sunset in Indonesia on that day, the crescent moon’s altitude is projected to be between -4.52° in Jayapura and -3.22° in Tua Pejat, failing to meet the 3° minimum requirement. Consequently, it is estimated that the month of Shaban will be completed to 30 days, meaning 1 Ramadan 1448 H will begin on 8 February 2027.
Estimates for Eid Holidays 2027
The official list of national holidays and collective leave for Eid 2027 will be announced by the government through a Joint Ministerial Decree (SKB). While the 2027 decree has not yet been issued, based on the 2026 schedule and an estimated Eid date of 9 March 2027, the projected holidays are as follows:

Tuesday, 9 March 2027: Eid al-Fitri 1448 H National Holiday
Wednesday, 10 March 2027: Eid al-Fitri 14_8 H Collective Leave
