Jakarta - The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Kemkomdigi) states that the scheme for utilising shared infrastructure during the Work From Home (WFH) policy, which supports energy efficiency, can keep the national telecommunications industry healthy.

Director General of Digital Infrastructure at Kemkomdigi, Wayan Toni Supriyanto, said this scheme was also successfully implemented during the COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia, and the telecommunications industry was able to adapt well.

“Our main focus is to promote efficiency through collaboration on shared infrastructure utilisation (infrastructure sharing) while maintaining a healthy competitive climate,” Wayan told ANTARA on Monday.

Through this synergy, the telecommunications industry will strengthen connectivity in areas with dense digital activity during WFH, such as residential settlements.

In addition to coordinating with telecommunications providers, Kemkomdigi will also coordinate with stakeholders at the regional government level, particularly in overseeing the development of facilities that can support the reliability of the national digital infrastructure.

“We are optimistic that the national telecommunications industry has strong resilience to adapt to changes in society’s work patterns, while still maintaining affordable tariffs for customers,” said Wayan.

Previously, President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto, during the Full Cabinet Meeting at the State Palace on Friday (13/3), encouraged steps to save fuel oil consumption and consider the Work From Home (WFH) policy as an anticipatory measure against the impact of the global crisis.

This scheme will be mandatory for Civil Servants (ASN) at central and regional government levels, and is a recommendation for the private sector.

Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian at the Senayan Parliament Complex, Jakarta, on Monday, mentioned that the national WFH policy as an energy efficiency effort will be announced on Tuesday (31/3).

“Just be patient, I hear it’s very likely, possibly, yes, to be officially announced tomorrow. So, I don’t want to preempt it,” Tito said when asked about the progress of the policy.
