Jakarta — The Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, has stated that his ministry, along with those under its coordination including the Ministry of Public Works, is prioritising inspections of road access along the Trans Java and Trans Sumatra routes ahead of the Lebaran holiday exodus.

He explained that there are several factors that need to be anticipated during the Lebaran departure and return period, including extreme weather conditions.

“Of course, I continue to urge the Ministry of Public Works to work around the clock, morning, afternoon and night, because Trans Java and Trans Sumatra are long routes and will certainly face significant challenges, especially given the weather conditions,” Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, known as AHY, said when met by journalists at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday evening.

“The weather today is something we must continue to monitor carefully. We must be prepared if extreme weather occurs, particularly heavy rain which could cause damage and potentially lead to accidents. I think we are all focused on this matter now,” he added.

On the same occasion, AHY emphasised that the government is working to ensure all infrastructure and supporting facilities will be in optimal condition ahead of the Lebaran departure and return period for 2026.

“The government is continuously preparing everything, particularly regarding infrastructure and facilities that will be used by the public during the Lebaran exodus. We must ensure our roads are in prime condition, whether main roads or arterial roads, and we must also ensure multimodal transportation is ready — not only land transport, but also maritime, air and rail. We must also ensure that the fleets are operational and that everything is adequate,” he said.

AHY further stated that the government is also providing discounts for transport tickets for the holiday exodus, with the aim of enabling those returning to their home towns to purchase tickets at affordable prices.

Various preparations are being undertaken by the government ahead of the departure and Eid al-Fitr holiday for 1447 Hijriah. President Prabowo has held three limited meetings so far to discuss government readiness for the Lebaran holiday period, held over the past weekend (8 March), Monday (9 March), and on this day.
