Information Transparency Deemed Crucial for Maintaining Consumer Trust
Increasing public attention on the safety of health products and functional beverages has made transparency a crucial aspect of building and maintaining consumer trust. Amid the rapid flow of information on social media, businesses are required to convey accurate, open, and accountable information so that the public obtains a complete picture of products circulating in the market.
This commitment is one of the steps taken by Lencir, a beauty and health product brand. Through a recent press conference, the company provided clarification on various pieces of information circulating about its detox beverage product while reaffirming its commitment to transparency, regulatory compliance, and consumer safety.
Lencir’s management explained that its detox beverage product had recently attracted public attention following news reports and social media discussions triggered by a health influencer’s statement regarding the product’s alleged contents and a call for evaluation by the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM). Additionally, information circulated on social media linking the product to the death of a consumer. According to the company, this information spread widely without being supported by complete facts, potentially leading to public misunderstanding. For this reason, Lencir chose to open a space for open communication.
The company claims all its business activities are conducted in accordance with applicable laws and regulations, including product licensing processes set by relevant government agencies. ‘Consumer trust is the main foundation we have built since the Lencir brand was established. Therefore, we chose to provide an explanation openly and responsibly,’ said Lencir Owner, Michelle Halim, in a statement.
During the press conference, Lencir also provided clarification regarding the information linking its product to the death of a consumer. The company expressed its condolences to the family of the deceased while explaining that, based on direct communication and meetings held with the family, the individual had been suffering from a long-term cancer illness before consuming Lencir’s product. The company also stated that, based on information received, the consumer had only consumed the Lencir product for a relatively short period, not yet reaching one week.
Michelle stressed that the company understands the public’s concerns. However, she believes the circulating information needs to be supplemented with complete facts to avoid erroneous conclusions. ‘We understand the concerns arising in the community. However, we also feel the need to correct the circulating information so that the public obtains the facts in full,’ she said.
Michelle explained that her team had met and communicated directly with the deceased’s family, who explained that the individual had long been battling cancer. ‘Based on the information we received, the use of the Lencir product had not even reached one week. Therefore, we hope the public does not rush to conclude a link between our product and the incident before there are official results from the authorities,’ she said. Michelle added that to date, the company has not received any examination results or official statements from the competent authorities stating a causal relationship between the consumption of Lencir’s product and the consumer’s death.
Lencir affirmed that it respects all supervisory mechanisms carried out by regulators. The company stated it is ready to provide documents, data, or information if required in the evaluation process in accordance with applicable regulations. ‘If there is an evaluation process or request for information, we are ready to cooperate cooperatively and provide the necessary data or documents in accordance with applicable regulations,’ said Michelle.
Lencir’s Legal Counsel, Michael Sugijanto, stated that the company respects the right of every party to express their opinion. However, he noted that the dissemination of information to the public must also be based on facts, caution, and respect for the applicable legal process. ‘We respect everyone’s freedom to express their opinion. However, the delivery of information to the public must also be based on accountable facts and evidence,’ he said.
Michael continued that to date, there have been no official results from the competent authorities stating a causal relationship between Lencir’s product and the death of the deceased. ‘Therefore, we urge all parties to respect the legal process and not to form opinions that could harm certain parties without a clear basis,’ he said.
Lencir stated it will continue to be cooperative with any process carried out by regulators and is ready to provide all necessary information in accordance with applicable regulations. The company also urged the public not to rush to conclusions based on information circulating on social media. Lencir invites all parties to uphold the presumption of innocence and await official results from regulators if there are further examinations or evaluations, so that all information received by the public is truly based on accountable facts and evidence.
