JAKARTA (JP): An exhibition featuring information technology solutions for banking, finance, offices, manufacturing, telecommunications, retail, transportation, publishing and logistics will be held at the Jakarta Convention Center next year.
Herman Wiriadipoera, the general manager of PT Napindo Mediapratama, the exhibition's organizer, said recently he expected that Minister of Industry and Trade Tunky Ariwibowo and Minister of Tourism, Post and Telecommunications Joop Ave would open the four-day exhibition, Networks Indonesia 97, on July 31, 1997.
Herman said the Internet and Intranet would be featured at the show, to be co-organized with the Indonesian Computer Society, the Indonesian Association of National Informatics Enterprises, the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Bandung Institute of Technology.
The computer society's chairman, Safwan Natanagara, said a conference would be held to coincide with the exhibition, featuring chief executives in networking industries.
Exhibition consultant Charles Chong said some overseas experts would be invited to present their papers on information technology professional standards and multimedia data communications at the conference.
He said Indonesia's expenditure on information technology grew 29 percent to US$895 million in 1995 from $693 million in 1994. Two thirds of the expenditure was on hardware and one-third was on software and services. (kod)
