Influencers Testify as Witnesses in Hanania Travel Umrah Fraud Scandal

Police are investigating the alleged fraud committed by Hanania Travel, which resulted in pilgrims failing to depart for the minor pilgrimage to the Holy Land. Several influencers have become witnesses in the fraud case. The Jakarta Metropolitan Police have named the boss of Hanania Travel, Ahmad Syah Farhan (ASF), as a suspect in a case of alleged fraud and/or embezzlement of umrah travel funds. On Monday, 8 June 2026, police questioned several influencers as witnesses. One of them was Keanu Angelo, who was examined as a witness after promoting Hanania Travel’s umrah packages. Following the examination, Keanu stated he was asked dozens of questions by investigators, including queries about his collaboration with the Hanania Group and endorsement fees. “I was asked where I knew him from, how the collaboration started, and what the contract was like. I explained inside that in my collaboration with Hanania, I did not receive any endorsement money at all. It was a barter arrangement,” Keanu said at the Jakarta Metropolitan Police headquarters on Monday. During the examination, Keanu brought several items of evidence, including bank statements proving he did not receive any flow of funds from Hanania. Keanu expressed shock upon learning about Hanania Travel’s fraud, noting the company often held reunions for pilgrims who had already departed. He claimed to have attended events attended by 3,000 to 4,000 people who still trusted Hanania. He voiced concern for the victims and hoped the pilgrims could get their rights back, pledging to remain cooperative and support the police’s efforts to thoroughly investigate the case. Keanu was questioned for six hours with a total of 28 questions posed. Police are delving into the endorsement cooperation, contracts, payments, and the legality of the travel agency. Four influencers, including Awkarin (Karin Novilda), failed to attend the examination. Sara Gibson, Audrey Jesselyn, and Dara Arafah have been rescheduled for questioning on 12 June. Police have examined a total of 70 witnesses to date and opened a complaint post, where 687 victims have filed reports. The Director of Criminal Investigation confirmed that several influencers have been questioned regarding their involvement in the marketing efforts of the suspect. Ahmad Syah Farhan, who is the President Director of PT Khazanah Tamma Internasional, was named a suspect on 29 May 2026 and has been detained.
