Visitors and residents at Kuta Beach in Badung were startled by the discovery of an infant’s body washed ashore on the beach yesterday afternoon at approximately 14:00 local time, specifically in the area near the skateboard park.

The manager of Kuta Beach tourist attraction, I Nyoman Arya Arimbawa, stated that the infant’s body was first discovered by a street vendor who spotted a white cloth bundle washed up on the shore. Upon approaching it, the vendor observed the baby’s legs protruding from the cloth.

“The vendor was the first to see the bundle. It had washed ashore and we could see the legs,” said Arya when contacted by detikBali on Monday (9/3/2026).

The vendor who discovered the bundle did not dare to open the cloth wrapping. Because it remained wrapped, the exact physical condition of the infant was not immediately apparent when first discovered.

“It was wrapped, so we didn’t dare look directly. The field team information indicated it was wrapped,” he said.

After receiving a report from the vendor, the beach management staff and lifeguards at the location immediately secured the bundle.

The discovery of the infant’s body attracted the attention of street vendors and residents in the surrounding area. At the time of the incident, Kuta Beach was not particularly crowded with tourists due to it occurring during daytime hours with relatively high ocean waves.

“The timing was during the day when the waves were quite high. There weren’t too many tourists around,” he added.

Currently, the case has been taken over by the Maritime Police (Polairud). The infant’s remains were then transported to Ngoerah General Hospital for further handling and investigation.
