Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin announced an increase in vaccination coverage for infants and pregnant women in 2026 during a meeting with House Commission IX in Jakarta on Tuesday, 23 June 2026. He explained that the national immunisation programme now includes 14 antigens for babies, children under two, school children, and adults. “Since we came in, three new vaccines or antigens have been added, namely PCV, HPV, and Rotavirus,” he said. For the infant category, Budi noted that as of May 2026, coverage had increased by 5.8 per cent compared to the same period in 2025. However, he pointed out that immunisation rates in Aceh and Papua provinces remain very low. Coverage for children under two also improved compared to 2025, though West Sumatra still shows low vaccination rates. “If you recall the recent outbreak, whether polio or measles, we can see that it occurred in provinces with low coverage,” he stated. For the school-age group, the Ministry of Health does not yet have 2026 data because the new academic year has not begun. In the adult category, particularly pregnant women, coverage also increased in 2026, but Budi highlighted that East Java still has low figures. “East Java is among those with low immunisation coverage for pregnant women. I have asked the team to follow up because it is a major province,” he concluded.
