INET and China's FiberHome Synergise on Indonesian Submarine Cable Project
PT Sinergi Inti Andalan Prima Tbk (INET) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with PT FiberHome Technologies Indonesia, a subsidiary of Chinese telecommunication technology company FiberHome Telecommunication Technologies Co. Ltd. The two entities are collaborating on the construction of submarine cable megaprojects and the strengthening of inter-island connectivity in Indonesia.
INET President Director Muhammad Arif described the collaboration as a quantum leap for the company in strengthening its national and regional digital infrastructure portfolio. “Pontianak has a very strategic geopolitical and geographical position as an alternative gateway for Indonesia’s global connectivity. Through the construction of this branch, INET is not only multiplying its international network capacity but also building a strong foundation to reduce the digital divide within the country,” Arif said.
The cooperation includes active participation in the ASEAN Fiber Connect System (AFC System), the development of a branching submarine cable to Pontianak, the construction of domestic inter-island connectivity, and the utilisation of the specialised vessel FH-21 for long-term installation and maintenance. The AFC System is a high-capacity submarine fibre optic transmission system designed to connect economic centres in Asia, from Hong Kong and Malaysia to Singapore and Indonesia. In this project, INET holds a key role as the landing station partner in Indonesia, while also securing direct capacity rights on the main AFC System network.
In terms of technical and operational competencies, FiberHome will lead the provision of cutting-edge technology, system engineering, and marine technical execution. Meanwhile, INET acts as the local anchor responsible for providing cable landing station facilities, developing terrestrial infrastructure, and fulfilling regulatory and licensing requirements in Indonesia. “This project covers the full cycle of telecommunication infrastructure, from system design and equipment procurement to deployment and network operations,” Arif stated.
To ensure sustainability and operational excellence, INET and FiberHome have secured a strategic asset in the form of the specialised vessel FH-21. The ship is specifically designed to handle installation, preventive maintenance, and emergency cable repair in deep waters. “At this crucial phase, our focus is on ensuring precise technical readiness, regulatory compliance, accountable project governance, and measured risk mitigation,” Arif added. INET confirmed that commercial details and the impact on the company’s financial performance will be released transparently to the public and stock exchange authorities as the project progresses, in accordance with information disclosure principles and capital market regulations.
