Industry Ministry Targets Xiamen Investment in Automotive and Semiconductor Sectors
JAKARTA - The Industry Ministry (Kemenperin) is exploring investment opportunities from the city of Xiamen, China, into several national strategic sectors such as the automotive industry, data centres, healthcare services, digital tourism, fisheries, and prefabricated construction. The exploration was conducted during the BRICS Forum on Partnership on New Industrial Revolution (PartNIR) 2026, through a bilateral meeting led by the Director General of Resilience, Regionalisation, and International Industrial Access (KPAII) Tri Supondy with Xiamen Mayor Wu Bin. Tri stated that the discussion focused on optimising Xiamen’s potential as one of China’s leading Special Economic Zones (SEZ), as well as investment opportunities in strategic sectors. “We see Xiamen as having a highly advanced industrial ecosystem that is relevant to Indonesia’s industrial development direction,” Tri said in a statement received in Jakarta, quoted Saturday (13/6). “This great potential is considered to be in line with the priority agenda of the Making Indonesia 4.0 roadmap and the development of integrated modern industrial estates in the country,” he said. To that end, the ministry hopes this partnership can encourage incoming investment, technology transfer, and collaboration that supports the strengthening of global supply chains and the development of sustainable industrial estates. “Indonesia opens wide cooperation doors for business actors from Xiamen. Through close partnership, we hope this cooperation will not only strengthen bilateral economic relations but also accelerate the creation of a national manufacturing ecosystem that is innovative, independent, and sustainable,” he said. These estates are ready to accommodate investors from Xiamen with the support of various fiscal and non-fiscal incentives to guarantee a conducive, competitive, and safe business climate. Economic relations between Indonesia and China continue to show a positive trend. Currently, China is Indonesia’s largest trading partner with bilateral trade value reaching US$154.5 billion in 2025. Regarding the broader scope of the forum, the BRICS PartNIR 2026 stage was also utilised by Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita to strengthen strategic industrial synergy across member countries, including bilaterally with Russia. He explained that this forum is a crucial platform for strengthening industrial transformation and the adoption of cutting-edge technology. “Indonesia is committed to continuously expanding international collaboration that can provide real added value for national industrial development, especially in welcoming the era of the fourth industrial revolution,” said Agus. According to him, cooperation with BRICS member countries, including Russia, is very important in strengthening national economic and industrial resilience amidst ever-evolving global dynamics. “Indonesia’s membership in BRICS is a strategic step to expand economic and industrial collaboration with potential partner countries,” he concluded.
