The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) is targeting strengthened access for Indonesian industrial products to the Eurasian region through enhanced cooperation with Tajikistan. “Industrial collaboration between countries must continue to be strengthened to spur innovation, expand market access, and create investment opportunities that provide added value for both parties,” said Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita in an official statement confirmed in Jakarta on Sunday. According to him, the relationship between Indonesia and Tajikistan has complementary potential. Indonesia, as one of the largest industrial centres in Southeast Asia, has strengths in the automotive, electronics, textile, and natural resource-based processing industries. Meanwhile, Tajikistan is currently strengthening its development of mineral-based industries, aluminium, textiles, and new technologies. This potential was the focus of discussions during a bilateral meeting between the Director General of Resilience, Regionalisation, and International Industrial Access (KPAII) of the Indonesian Ministry of Industry, Tri Supondy, and the Deputy Minister of Industry and New Technologies of the Republic of Tajikistan, Aziz Nazar, on the sidelines of the BRICS Forum on Partnership on New Industrial Revolution (PartNIR) 2026 in Xiamen, China. During the bilateral meeting in Xiamen on 28 May 2026, the two delegations discussed various cooperation opportunities with the potential to strengthen industrial partnerships. Indonesia views Tajikistan as an important partner as well as a strategic entry point to expand the reach of national manufacturing products into the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) region. In recent years, economic relations between the two countries have shown a positive trend. The trade value between Indonesia and Tajikistan increased from US$1.7 million in 2021 to US$1.9 million in 2025, with the main contribution coming from the non-oil and gas sector. This performance indicates that there is still room for broader cooperation, both in trade and industrial development. Director General of KPAII at the Ministry of Industry, Tri Supondy, stated that strengthening relations with partner countries is part of a strategy to build broader industrial connectivity while opening new opportunities for national business players. “We continue to enhance opportunities for mutually beneficial partnerships through expanding industrial networks, increasing investment, and developing cooperation that can provide added value for both countries,” he said. In addition to exploring trade and investment opportunities, the two countries also discussed the follow-up to the initiation of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in the industrial sector proposed by Tajikistan. The discussion was directed towards refining the scope of cooperation to make it more relevant to the needs and potential of each country. Indonesia and Tajikistan also identified several sectors with the potential to become a focus of collaboration, namely the development of critical mineral supply chains, the pharmaceutical and medical device industry, and the halal industrial ecosystem. These three sectors are considered to have promising prospects and are capable of providing economic benefits for both countries. The meeting also served as a momentum to introduce Indonesia’s participation as a Partner Country at the INNOPROM International Industrial Exhibition 2026, which will take place on 6–9 July 2026 in Ekaterinburg, Russia. Indonesia’s involvement in the largest industrial exhibition in the Eurasian region is expected to expand the promotion of national manufacturing products and open up new partnership opportunities with industry players and investors from various countries.
