Industry Ministry Strengthens Vocational Adaptation to Technology
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) continues to strengthen the adaptation of industrial vocational education to technological developments to prepare human resources capable of meeting national industrial needs.
This step is being taken through the enhancement of vocational educator competencies and the preparation of Indonesia’s top talent to compete in the WorldSkills ASEAN 2027 competition.
In a statement confirmed in Jakarta on Friday, the Minister of Industry, Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, stated that developing superior industrial human resources is a key factor in maintaining the performance of the manufacturing sector as the main driver of the national economy.
In the first quarter of 2026, the non-oil and gas processing industry contributed 19.07 per cent to the national Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and employed up to 20.26 million people.
As a follow-up, the Industrial Human Resources Development Agency (BPSDMI) of the Ministry of Industry has established a strategic collaboration with PT Festo through the organisation of the Industry 4.0 Skills-1 Workshop, held online on 20–21 May 2026.
This activity is part of the effort to increase the capacity of teachers and lecturers within the Ministry of Industry’s industrial vocational education environment.
The Head of BPSDMI Kemenperin, Doddy Rahadi, stated that developments in digital technology, automation, the Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and smart manufacturing systems have transformed the global industrial landscape.
“BPSDMI Kemenperin remains committed to improving the quality of industrial vocational education through the strengthening of teacher and lecturer competencies, the development of industry-based curricula, and the expansion of strategic collaborations with the global business and industrial worlds,” said Doddy.
According to him, the workshop aims not only to strengthen participants’ understanding of modern manufacturing technology but also serves as part of the process for scouting potential talent to be prepared to represent Indonesia at the WorldSkills ASEAN 2027 competition in the field of Industry 4.0.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Centre for Industrial Vocational Education Development (PPPVI) of BPSDMI Kemenperin, Wulan Aprilianti Permatasari, hopes that the teachers and lecturers participating in the workshop can expand their understanding of the implementation of Industry 4.0 technology, particularly in the fields of industrial automation, digitalisation of manufacturing processes, and learning methods based on modern industrial needs.
