Industry Ministry Optimises Packaging Industry Certification to Boost Competitiveness
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Industry is optimising the application of standardisation and certification in the national packaging industry as a strategic step to enhance competitiveness, expand market access, and strengthen its position in global supply chains.
Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said efforts to strengthen the packaging industry’s competitiveness must be carried out comprehensively, not only through product and technological innovation, but also by ensuring every product meets recognised quality standards and certification.
“This step is important to increase market confidence, expand trade access, and strengthen the national industry’s position in global supply chains,” the Minister said in a statement received in Jakarta on Thursday.
According to him, the development of the packaging industry is no longer oriented solely towards aesthetics and product protection.
“This industry is also required to meet quality and safety standards, as well as various evolving regulatory requirements, including growing public demands for product safety and halal compliance,” he said.
As part of these strengthening efforts, the Centre for Standardisation and Chemical, Pharmaceutical and Packaging Industry Services (BBSPJIKFK), under the Ministry’s Standardisation and Industrial Services Policy Agency (BSKJI), held a webinar titled Improving the Quality and Competitiveness of Packaging Products through Certification.
The online event, held on 12 July, featured speakers from the Indonesian Halal Product Assurance Organising Body (BPJPH) and BBSPJIKFK to improve industry players’ understanding of the importance of product certification and halal certification.
Head of BSKJI at the Ministry of Industry, Emmy Suryandari, affirmed that standardisation and certification are strategic instruments for enhancing the competitiveness of the national industry, including the packaging sector, which faces increasingly high global market demands.
“The application of standards and certification is not only aimed at meeting regulations, but also serves as an important instrument in improving the quality, safety, efficiency, and market confidence in national industrial products. Through the application of standards and certification, the Ministry of Industry continues its industrial transformation so that it becomes more competitive, sustainable, and capable of penetrating global markets,” she explained.
She further said that BSKJI is currently supported by 24 technical service units in the form of Standardisation Centres providing testing, certification, calibration, inspection, and technical assistance services for industry players across Indonesia.
