Industry Ministry Affirms Commitment to Accelerating Industrial Transformation at BRICS Forum
Indonesia has affirmed its commitment to continuously strengthen cooperation in facing the global industrial transformation. The Ministry of Industry emphasised its resolve to accelerate national industrial transformation through enhanced collaboration at the BRICS Forum on Partnership on New Industrial Revolution (PartNIR) 2026, held in Xiamen, China. Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita stated in Jakarta on Tuesday that Indonesia views the global industrial transformation as an opportunity that must be addressed by strengthening cooperation and developing future industrial technology. “Indonesia affirms its commitment to continuously strengthen cooperation in facing the global industrial transformation through the development of smart technology, future industrial standards, and the strengthening of industrial human resources,” said Agus. He noted that the theme of the BRICS PartNIR Forum 2026 at the end of May aligns with the ongoing direction of the world’s industrial transformation. The development of artificial intelligence, robotics, the industrial internet, and big data-based digital systems has brought significant changes to global manufacturing systems, from production processes and supply chains to industrial competitiveness. For Indonesia, strengthening the smart manufacturing ecosystem is an important part of maintaining national industrial resilience while increasing economic added value. This effort is also aligned with the implementation of the Making Indonesia 4.0 roadmap, which promotes industrial transformation through digitalisation, green industry development, downstream processing, and the application of modern technology in the manufacturing sector. Furthermore, the Director General of Resilience, Regionalisation, and International Industrial Access at the Ministry, Tri Supondy, stressed the importance of BRICS PartNIR as a collaboration forum for developing countries. “Indonesia views BRICS PartNIR as an important platform to strengthen policy dialogue, technological cooperation, industrial partnerships, and capacity building among developing countries,” said Tri. He added that the forum serves as a means to strengthen industrial partnerships, expand technological collaboration, and build national industrial capacity amidst the accelerating new industrial revolution. He assessed that collaboration among developing countries has an important role in creating more inclusive and sustainable industrial growth. Through BRICS PartNIR, member states and partners can strengthen synergies in technology development, industrial innovation, and improving the quality of human resources. At the forum, Indonesia highlighted three main focuses for future industrial development: digitalisation and smart factory development, green industry transformation based on clean energy, and strengthening innovation and competency of industrial human resources. These three aspects are considered an important foundation for building an adaptive and highly competitive manufacturing sector. Indonesia’s participation in the BRICS PartNIR Forum 2026 was also strengthened by the success of eight national teams that qualified for the BRICS Industrial Innovation Contest Global Final 2026.
