Industry Ministry Accelerates Industrial Transformation via BRICS PartNIR 2026 Forum
The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) is strengthening international cooperation to support national industrial transformation through active participation in the BRICS Forum on Partnership on New Industrial Revolution (PartNIR) 2026, specifically the Sub-Forum on Industrial Intelligence and Technology Innovation held in Xiamen, China. The forum serves as a strategic platform for BRICS nations and partners to strengthen collaboration in industrial technology, artificial intelligence, smart manufacturing, and sustainable digital innovation. Indonesia’s participation aligns with its increasingly active role in BRICS cooperation, particularly in expanding industrial access, investment, technology, and strengthening global supply chains. Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita stated in Jakarta on Thursday (4/6) that Indonesia views this momentum as a strategic opportunity to accelerate national industrial transformation through strengthening smart manufacturing, industrial digitalisation, and the development of an inclusive and sustainable green industry. The sub-forum, titled Industrial Intelligence and Technology Innovation, discussed various strategic issues related to the application of artificial intelligence, big data, industrial automation, smart manufacturing, and the development of digital innovation ecosystems in the industrial sector. These discussions are relevant to the national industrial transformation agenda through the Making Indonesia 4.0 roadmap, which accelerates technology adoption and strengthens Indonesian manufacturing competitiveness. During the sub-forum held on 28 May 2026, Director General of Resilience, Regionalisation, and International Industrial Access (KPAII) Tri Supondy emphasised that international cooperation is a key factor in accelerating national industrial transformation. He noted that linkages with global partners can strengthen innovation, improve domestic manufacturing industry competitiveness, and create an industrial ecosystem better prepared for technological developments and global dynamics. He added that synergy among BRICS countries has a strategic role in ensuring industrial transformation proceeds inclusively, resiliently, and sustainably. Kemenperin sees great potential for developing cooperation in Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things, Big Data, industrial robotics, and digital standardisation to strengthen industrial connectivity among BRICS countries. Furthermore, Kemenperin is continuously strengthening cooperation in developing industrial startups and digital innovation ecosystems, particularly to support the digital transformation of small and medium industries (IKM). The harmonisation of digital standards and strengthening industrial human resource competencies are considered important factors in facing the new, increasingly technology-based industrial era. In implementing Making Indonesia 4.0, Kemenperin has carried out various strategic programmes ranging from industrial digital transformation assistance, the development of Industry 4.0 capability centres, to strengthening industrial talent development programmes. One programme being continuously expanded is E-Smart IKM, which has helped more than 20,000 IKM players utilise digital platforms for business development and product marketing. The Ministry also considers human resource development the main foundation in supporting future industrial transformation. Beyond technological mastery, the readiness of human resources to adapt and innovate is a critical factor in creating a highly competitive industry. Therefore, Kemenperin is opening opportunities for cooperation among BRICS countries in the fields of digital education, industrial training, Training of Trainers programmes, and the development of shared digital learning platforms.
