Industry Minister Still Discussing Electric Motorcycle Subsidy Amount
Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita stated that the subsidy amount for electric motorcycles is still being discussed with the Ministry of Finance. He mentioned that the government has not yet announced the electric motorcycle subsidy figure. “It is still in the discussion stage by the technical team regarding the subsidy amount, the method, the business process, and so on; then we will discuss between the technical teams of both ministries,” Agus said to reporters at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs office in Jakarta on Tuesday, 28 April 2026. In response to Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa’s statement mentioning an electric motorcycle subsidy of Rp 5 million, Agus said that certainty on the subsidy figure must await the Minister of Finance Regulation. Nevertheless, he assessed that a Rp 5 million subsidy is an appropriate amount. According to Agus, providing a Rp 5 million subsidy will convey the message that the government is learning from the ongoing geopolitical situation. This is because the closure of the Strait of Hormuz makes energy resilience a crucial issue. “So, I think Rp 5 million is a good amount,” he said. Previously, Purbaya stated that the electric motorcycle subsidy amount is likely to reach Rp 5 million per unit. However, the number of electric motorcycles that will receive the subsidy is still being discussed by the government. “The subsidy might be Rp 5 million per motorcycle or more,” he said in Jakarta on Friday, 24 April 2026.
