Industry Minister: Rp5 million electric motorcycle incentive awaits Finance Ministry regulation

Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita has said that the Rp5 million electric motorcycle incentive policy is still awaiting the issuance of a Minister of Finance Regulation from the Ministry of Finance.

Agus stressed that the Ministry of Industry, as the technical ministry, is ready to implement the programme. However, implementation can only proceed once the regulation from the Ministry of Finance is issued.

“We are waiting for the PMK. Waiting for the PMK,” Agus said at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta on Monday.

He noted that the regulation rests entirely with the Ministry of Finance. Nevertheless, Agus confirmed that his ministry is fully prepared on the technical side.

“We are ready. The Ministry of Industry, as the technical ministry, is ready. We are just waiting for the PMK. Once the PMK is finalised, we will adjust accordingly,” he explained.

Agus added that the electric motorcycle brands eligible for the incentive will be discussed jointly by the Ministry of Industry, Danantara Indonesia, and the Ministry of Finance.

“Together, there is a team. Between us, Danantara, and the Minister of Finance as well,” Agus added.

The incentive is planned to be disbursed in stages. In the initial phase, the programme is targeted to cover around 6 million motorcycle units.

Purbaya explained that the programme is still under review and will be discussed further with Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita and Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto.

Initial studies point towards a subsidy of around Rp5 million per unit. However, the amount could still change as the policy is finalised.
