Industry Minister Meets Finance Minister to Discuss Strengthening Manufacturing and Electric Vehicle Incentives
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita met with Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa. The meeting discussed strengthening the manufacturing sector and opportunities for electric vehicle incentives.
Agus assessed the manufacturing sector as the main pillar of the national economy. The performance of this sector is considered to be consistently growing.
“We all know that the manufacturing sector is the backbone of the economy. Its contribution to GDP has been rising year after year, and last year’s manufacturing growth was recorded above the national economic growth,” Agus said at the Ministry of Finance after the meeting on Tuesday (5/5/2026).
“Now, we are finding solutions, although we also appreciate from the start that the Finance Minister has opened up and analysed the problems faced by business actors, not only in manufacturing, by forming what is called the debottlenecking team,” he said.
The government is preparing policies in the form of stimuli and incentives. This step is aimed at maintaining the industrial momentum.
Agus also highlighted the role of manufacturing exports. The share of manufactured product exports reaches 75 to 80 percent of total national exports.
“Including how we strive to ensure that manufacturing exports, which are already very good, continue. BPS always records that our national exports average 75 to 80 percent are manufactured product exports,” Agus said.
The issue of electric vehicle incentives was also discussed. This policy is considered relevant to support the energy transition and reduce oil fuel consumption.
“Regarding incentives? We discussed various kinds of incentives. We already talked about one of them, also discussing incentives as stimuli. If the government provides incentives for electric motorbikes or cars, this is increasingly relevant,” he said.
Agus assessed that these incentives would impact the strengthening of the industry and job absorption.
