Industry Minister: Industrial Zones Crucial for Attracting Investment

JAKARTA — Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said that industrial zones are crucial for attracting investment, remarking this during the inauguration of the new office of the Himpunan Kawasan Industri (HKI) on Jalan H.R. Rasuna Said in South Jakarta. He said HKI should be the most important part of Indonesia’s manufacturing ecosystem. The strategic role of industrial zones is currently being reinforced by the Industrial Zone Bill, which DPR RI has designated as a legislative priority and included in the Prolegnas programme. The draft Industrial Zone Bill details that manufacturing activities must be located within industrial zones. ‘They must be facilities that provide convenience for tenants and investors,’ Agus said. He also hoped that industrial zones would support accelerating the transition to a green or sustainable economy, ensuring domestically produced industrial commodities are sustainable and environmentally safe.

Meanwhile, HKI chairman Akhmad Ma’ruf Maulana said the association is committed to attracting investment, speeding up the downstreaming of industry, and creating jobs. He noted that HKI shares the same spirit as President Prabowo Subianto’s remarks in the 19th Plenary Session of the DPR on the Macro Economic Framework (KER) and the Primary Policy of Fiscal Policy (PPKF) for the 2027 State Budget. The President stated that industrialisation and national downstream are essential to ensure Indonesia is not merely a market for foreign firms. Investments would form a foundational pillar to support economic resilience and rupiah sovereignty over the long term. ‘Indonesia has a large domestic market, a demographic dividend, a strategic position in the global supply chain, and a substantial need for industrialisation,’ he added.
