Industry Minister Confident Steel Sector Has Strong Commitment to Accelerate Green Steel
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Industry (Menperin) Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita is confident that the national steel industry has a strong commitment to accelerating the transformation towards green steel or environmentally friendly steel, in line with the increasing global demands for low-emission products.
The Minister, when met in Jakarta on Friday, revealed that this commitment is reflected in the seriousness of industry players who are members of the Indonesian Iron & Steel Industry Association (IISIA) in promoting the adoption of green technology in the steel sector.
“Green steel, I’ve already spoken a lot with the IISIA chairman, the commitment from IISIA, from the business players, is very high,” he said.
His side, he said, has also established a grant collaboration with the World Bank to accelerate industrial transformation, including the steel sector. According to him, this support will be focused on building infrastructure that supports green industrialisation.
The Minister explained that his side has also conducted a pilot project for the implementation of Carbon Capture Utilisation (CCU) technology in the domestic industry.
This technology is considered to provide greater added value compared to other methods because it can process emissions into economically valuable products. The trial of this technology has been carried out for one year at PT Petrokimia Gresik (PKG) with significant results.
“And Alhamdulillah in the evaluation, in the notes of the last one month, two months, the emission reduction in one stack at PKG can be reduced by 94 percent,” he said.
