Industry in Cimahi City Disrupted by Rolling Blackouts
The rolling blackouts currently affecting the Greater Bandung area have also hit the industrial sector in Cimahi City, West Java, disrupting factory production activities due to the lengthy duration of the power cuts. Secretary of the Indonesian Employers’ Association (Apindo) Cimahi, Christina Sri Manunggal, stated that based on reports received from companies, the rolling blackouts have spread to the industrial sector, albeit at different times as industries are spread across several areas. “Apindo has 45 member companies in Cimahi, and I have asked around; indeed, some industries have already been affected by the scheduled power cuts,” she said when confirmed on Saturday (20/6/2026). She noted that the duration of the blackouts ranges from one to three hours. This condition clearly impacts company production activities, as operations are heavily dependent on electrical energy supplied by the state-owned electricity company (PLN). “When the power goes out, the machines stop and work is halted. The duration varies, some experience one hour, one and a half hours, and the longest is three hours,” she said. As a result, company production deviates from targets because time is lost during the blackouts. Apindo has yet to determine the nominal losses caused by the alternating power cuts that are disrupting company production. “Automatically, the targets are delayed. For example, work that should have been finished by 7 AM is not completed. We haven’t calculated the losses yet,” Sri stated.
