The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) has reported that Indonesia’s Manufacturing Industrial Confidence Index (IKI) continued to show an expansionary trend in April 2026, reaching 51.75 points, following an expansion of 51.86 points in the previous month.

Spokesperson for Kemenperin, Febri Hendri Antoni Arif, stated in Jakarta on Wednesday that of the 23 analysed processing industry subsectors, 16 recorded expansion, while seven experienced contraction.

According to him, the expanding subsectors contribute 78.9% to the processing industry’s GDP in April, meaning the expansion is still dominated by subsectors with a large share in the industrial or national GDP.

“The two subsectors with the highest IKI are the tobacco processing industry KBLI 12, and the paper and paper products industry KBLI 17,” he said.

Meanwhile, the seven contracting subsectors include the beverage industry, textiles, wood and wood products, chemicals, non-metallic mineral products, non-machine metal goods, and other transport equipment.

From the production variables perspective, the IKI experienced a slowdown, with new orders value dropping 0.77 points to 51.43, and production declining 0.21 points to 51.34.

Kemenperin noted that the impact of the global energy crisis is limited to certain subsectors. Overall, 72.5% of respondents assessed that business activity conditions had declined compared to the previous month, although optimism for the next six months remains high at 70.1%.
