Indramayu's 'Sekolah Rakyat' to Feature FIFA-Standard Football Pitch
The Ministry of Public Works is accelerating the construction of a Sekolah Rakyat in Cikawung Village, Terisi District, Indramayu Regency, West Java, to support the 2026-2027 academic year. Built on 9.2 hectares of land with a total building area of 27,372 square metres, this integrated educational complex also features 69,628 square metres of green open space. Surrounded by teak plantations, the location offers a cool and comfortable learning atmosphere, with strategic access near the Cikedung Toll Gate.
Minister of Public Works Dody Hanggodo stated that the Sekolah Rakyat is a strategic programme of President Prabowo Subianto aimed at breaking the chain of extreme poverty by improving access to quality education for the community. He emphasised that the acceleration of construction must not compromise building quality. “The most important thing is that quality is not something to be sacrificed. I am completely against sacrificing quality; whatever happens, this Sekolah Rakyat building must last a long time,” Dody said.
One of the standout facilities is a football pitch with FIFA-standard grass, using natural Zoysia matrella Linmer turf with field line dimensions of 10.5 by 6.8 metres. The edges are planted with mini elephant grass, and the pitch is equipped with a 7.8-metre-wide running track. The presence of this pitch is expected to support the development of students’ sporting achievements. The campus also features modern facilities including buildings for elementary, junior high, and senior high school levels, laboratories, student dormitories, teacher housing flats, a multipurpose hall, a guest house, and a ceremonial field, all designed as an integrated area to support both teaching and character development.
Head of the West Java Strategic Infrastructure Task Force, Tomi Hendratno, revealed that as of 28 June 2026, physical progress had reached 80.16 percent, involving approximately 920 workers. The IDR 750 billion project is being undertaken by PT Brantas Abipraya and PT Uno Tanoh Seuramoh. “Work has now entered the final finishing stage, including the completion of roof covering which is targeted to be finished this week,” Tomi said.
