Indramayu's Sekolah Rakyat deploys smart boards to support digital learning

Indramayu (ANTARA) - Sekolah Rakyat Terintegrasi (SRT) 40 in Indramayu Regency, West Java, is making use of smart boards in every classroom to support digital teaching and learning activities for pupils from poor and extremely poor families.

Mardiani, head of SRT 40 Indramayu, said on Thursday that all classrooms at the school have been equipped with smart boards as a learning medium.

In addition, every pupil at the school also receives one laptop to use during lessons.

“At the People’s School, there is one smart board per classroom. The children also get laptop facilities, one laptop per pupil for learning,” she said.

The government also provides all of the pupils’ educational needs, from uniforms and stationery to boarding facilities and learning support equipment, free of charge.

Mardiani explained that Sekolah Rakyat implements an academic curriculum like regular schools, but this is combined with a character-building curriculum delivered through a boarding school system.

“At the People’s School there are two curricula: an academic curriculum that is the same as regular schools and a character curriculum applied in the boarding house,” she said.

She said SRT 40 Indramayu currently accommodates 100 pupils, consisting of 50 primary school pupils and 50 junior secondary school pupils.

Meanwhile, Waskam, Acting Head of the Indramayu Regency Social Affairs Office, said construction of the permanent Sekolah Rakyat building in the Cikawung area, Terisi Subdistrict, has reached more than 80 per cent and is targeted for use in the new academic year.

He said that in the new academic year the school will admit 270 pupils across primary, junior secondary and senior secondary levels, bringing the total number of pupils to 370.

“All education costs at this People’s School are free. The school is intended for people in decile 1 and decile 2 categories, or poor and extremely poor families,” said Waskam.
