Indramayu U-Turn Site of Fatal Crash That Killed 12 Has History of Accidents, Witness Says

A U-turn on the Pantura highway in Kiajaran Kulon Village, Lohbener District, Indramayu Regency, has frequently claimed victims. Accidents have repeatedly occurred at this location. The most recent fatal accident occurred on Sunday afternoon, involving three vehicles: a pickup truck carrying a wedding party, a wing box truck, and a flatbed truck. In that accident, 12 people died and six others were injured and are being treated in hospital. All victims were from the Gran Max pickup truck with registration number E 8559 RB. Based on observations at the location on Monday, remnants of the accident were still visible, including dried red bloodstains on the road surface. The U-turn point has an uneven elevation. The road from the Jakarta direction towards Cirebon is lower than the road from the opposite direction. Therefore, vehicles from Jakarta intending to make a U-turn must travel slightly uphill. A shop owner whose business is directly across from the U-turn, Tarlam (65), said the U-turn frequently causes traffic accidents. According to him, the majority of accidents involve motorcycles and private cars.
