Indramayu short of school funds
INDRAMAYU, West Java: Indramayu Regency is short of funds to finance the renovation of 276 damaged elementary school buildings in the area, an official says.
The renovations will cost the regental government Rp 30 billion (US$3.3 million), however, the government had less than Rp 25 billion in education funds, education office chief Masnata said.
"Part of this Rp 25 billion fund has already been spent to enhance the quality of teaching and to help raise literacy rates in the regency," Masnata said.
He hoped central government and businesses would help the regency meet the shortfall. -- JP
