A number of residents in Indramayu Regency are complaining about the difficulty of obtaining 3 kg LPG cylinders. “I was forced to go around to shops and stalls before I finally got one,” said Selamet (48), a food vendor from Sindang Subdistrict, Indramayu Regency, on Wednesday (29/7). Selamet had to visit ten shops and stalls before finding a 3 kg LPG cylinder. Despite having to search for the LPG, Selamet said he remained grateful as it did not stop him from selling. “But it does take up a lot of time to find this LPG. Most shop and stall owners said the stock hadn’t arrived and would only come in the afternoon. But I need it in the morning,” he said. A similar complaint was voiced by a sempol chicken snack vendor, Wawan, 40. “I had to go around to four shops before I got one,” said the vendor who trades on Jalan MT Haryono, Indramayu. Wawan admitted he had to leave his stall to buy the 3 kg LPG because he only has one cylinder and no spare. “So I had no choice but to leave. If the gas runs out, how can I sell?” he said. Wawan said buying a spare cylinder is too expensive and his money is used as capital for selling. Along with the difficulty in obtaining the canisters, the price has also increased. Under normal conditions, the price of a 3 kg LPG cylinder is only Rp22,000, but now it has risen to Rp25,000. Some have even obtained the cylinders for Rp30,000 each.
