Indramayu probes attacks on officials

INDRAMAYU, West Java: The Indramayu administration will immediately investigate an attack on two of its official cars by a mob in Rancamulya village, Gabuswetan district, officials said on Monday.

Administration head of legal affairs Muhammad Rahmat said he was assigning a team of lawyers to collect information on the attack from witnesses.

What triggered the incident was unclear but it was apparently linked to alleged violations of campaign rules in the district by local officials.

A car assigned to Kroya district head Supardjo was among those attacked. "We have asked the police to thoroughly investigate the case," said Rahmat.

He said the incident was a form of intimidation of civil servants, and that he had been ordered by Indramayu Regent Irianto MS Syafiuddin to take legal action against the perpetrators. --Antara
