REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, INDRAMAYU – The role of fire brigade (Damkar) personnel has broadened and is being directly felt by the community. Not only do they stand ready to conquer the flames, firefighters from Indramayu Regency have also stepped in to help farmers who complained that their water supply had been disrupted by a clogged irrigation channel.

The non-fire emergency response took place in Lobener Lor village, Jatibarang subdistrict. Before personnel arrived at the scene, a pile of material blocking the irrigation channel had paralysed water distribution to residents’ rice fields.

To resolve the problem, Damkar personnel used high-pressure water jets from fire engines. The spraying method proved effective in pushing away the material covering the channel, until water finally flowed strongly again towards residents’ paddy fields.

Head of the Fire Brigade Division of Indramayu Regency, Jajat Wibisono, explained that the operation was part of his agency’s commitment to delivering fast and solution-oriented public services. “We always strive to be there whenever the community needs us. One way is by helping farmers clean a blocked irrigation channel in Lobener Lor village,” said Jajat recently.

Jajat added that the restored irrigation flow was crucial for farmers, as the water supply is essential for the ongoing planting season.

Jajat also urged the community to work together to keep the environment clean, particularly waterways. Residents were asked not to throw rubbish into drains or irrigation channels.
