The Food Security and Agriculture Office (DKPP) of Indramayu Regency, West Java, is targeting rice production of 1.6 million tonnes in 2026 from a harvested area of around 230,000 hectares.

Head of the Indramayu DKPP, Sugeng Heryanto, said in Indramayu on Friday that the target was drawn up based on a standard paddy field area (LBS) of approximately 125,000 hectares with a cropping index (IP) of 1.8.

“Our standard paddy field area is about 125,000 hectares. Our target is that around 230,000 hectares will be harvested over the course of a year,” he said.

According to him, rice productivity in Indramayu currently averages 6.6 tonnes per hectare, so annual production is estimated to reach 1.6 million tonnes, and could even exceed that figure.

Sugeng said the production target still depends on developments in the second planting season, which has just begun in a number of areas.

He noted that the second planting season could face challenges due to the dry season, which is forecast to last longer and could affect the availability of irrigation water.

According to him, the regional government, together with the TNI, the National Police (Polri), and farmers have prepared anticipatory measures through a water rotation system (gilir-giring) in irrigation areas.

“Our efforts are being assisted by the District Military Commander, the Regency Police Chief, and other officials to secure the water rotation. There is also pump irrigation assistance from the Ministry of Agriculture,” he said.
