Indramayu District Court Sentences Defendant Ririn to Death; Prosecutors Say Verdict Aligns with Demands

The lengthy trial process in the murder case of a family of five from Paoman Village, Indramayu District, concluded on Wednesday (8/7/2026) at the Indramayu District Court, with the panel of judges sentencing defendant Ririn Rifanto to death. Head of the Indramayu District Prosecutor’s Office, Niko, through Head of General Crimes Section Eko Supramurbada, stated that the prosecution team is still considering its stance on the verdict. ‘Regarding the panel of judges’ decision, the defendant Ririn immediately stated he would file an appeal. Meanwhile, we as the Public Prosecution Service are still considering our position to study the judges’ considerations and await the official stance of the defendant or his legal counsel in accordance with applicable regulations,’ said Eko after the verdict hearing at the Indramayu District Prosecutor’s Office on Wednesday (8/7/2026). Eko assessed that the panel of judges’ decision had accommodated all the demands previously submitted by the Public Prosecutor, not only in terms of evidence but also the charges and the demand for the death penalty against the defendant. ‘The verdict is in accordance with our demands. The charges were proven and the sentencing was accommodated by the panel of judges, although of course the judges have their own legal considerations in handing down the decision,’ he explained. He acknowledged that Ririn has the right not to admit to his actions. However, all the evidence and witnesses presented during the trial process have proven the defendant’s guilt, leading to the death sentence handed down by the panel of judges. ‘It is the defendant’s right to fight for his defence, including not admitting to the alleged acts and filing an appeal,’ he said.
